The fun of winning

so a couple weeks back the bowling team went to camarillo california. we bowled extremely well and won our first tournament of the season and first win in a long long time. its a little blurry but we were excited after the win so we had to get it taken quick.

after the tourney was over we started the drive home and since its a 13 hour drive from there we stopped in vegas on the way home. seeing as how we were in vegas we had to party and celebrate so we went to the top of the stratosphere hotel and had a bowling team party

my final project

so for my final project in my video production class i got to do a video project that featured me in it. hope you like and now you guys can watch me bowl.

Seeing the Silver Linning

So this past weekend the bowling team was in Davis, CA. Now some people would saying averaging 194 for a tournament is really good. You would think the bowling team would think but... the biggest problem we faced as a team was we were bowling good. The teams we bowled for some odd reason just seemed to out bowl us every time. We had the third highest averaged out of the ten teams there but managed to only come out of the first tournament of the weekend in sixth place. This is was the third and fourth tournaments we have bowled and it has been the same way at every weekend we have bowled. On the plus side this is the best team i have bowled on at Weber state in my four years of bowling for the school and we have all been working really well as a team. So all that is left to do is crumple up this past weekend throw it out and move on to the next one in Camarillo, CA in a week and hope our luck changes.

The long drive home

So the tournament got over on Sunday after a long two days of bowling. We bowled well as a team but just couldn't place high in the field at all. We started the drive home at 5pm California time and after two and a half hours of driving we decided to stop in Reno to get some sleep. We woke at 7am Reno time and started our drive home, after a long long long drive back that seemed to never end we made it home at 5pm. So after leaving for Davis, CA at 7am UT time i finally made it home at 10pm on Monday that makes for a REALLY! long weekend

Bowling tips 2

So now that you have the approach down its time for the newt step. the one everyone wants to know how to do..... CURVE! thats right im gonna teach you guys how to put spin on the ball, but first you must practice everything that i taught you in the last post because you need to learn to walk before you can run. so now you need to find a bowling ball that your fingers only go into the first knuckle and your thumb fits nice and snug. not to tight but not too loose or else you will drop it behind you or it will get stuck and you will fly down the lane with it. next as you are releasing the ball you need to make sure to squeeze your fingers almost like squeezing a stress ball.

Thats it for now. there wont be a post about how to bowl for two weeks this weekend i will be in davis, CA for a bowling tourney and i will update you on how that goes as i bowl

Bowling tips

So seeing as i have had a few requests for tips on bowling im gonna give them to you guys.

1. the first thing you need to do is find a ball that fits you. your fingers should be able to go into the second knuckle on your ring and index finger. also you MUST!!!! use your thumb. finally to know if its the right weight you need to hold the ball in your palm of the hand you will throw with and as long as you dont have to lean to that side the ball is the right weight for you.

2. the next thing is the approach. you should use a four step approach to get you from the dots to the foul line. to find where you should start go up to the foul line and put your heels against the foul line then take about four and a half steps(normal sized steps like you would be walking) then stop and turn around and thats were you should start. your 1st step you should be pushing the ball straight forward and then just relax your arm. gravity will do the rest for you.

To be continued.........

here is a video i shot in my video production class that shows a approach and how it should look. enjoy!!!

Hi my name is WHAT?

My name is mark mandell i am a communications major with an emphasis in electronic media. i have been going to school for 6 years, because for the first 5 years i didnt know what i wanted to major in. i am part of the student alumni executive board as the programming/athletic relations VP.

i am on the bowling team here at WSU in my senior season and am loving every minute of it. bowling is my life, too me its more than a sport or hobby. i have been bowling for 11 years now and wish i would have started sooner than i did.

i got into bowling after living in Arizona for a year. i used to play little league baseball and loved having my mom there to watch me play. the heat was too much for her and so i looked into sports that were played inside. my dad bowled so i decided to give it a try and fell in love and rapidly started working and improving. after about two years i won my first junor tourney.
